1. Each abstract must be typed, printed, and submitted in class on time to receive credit. All

abstracts are due at the beginning of the class hour and will be considered late if turned in at

the end of class on the due date. Late work will have a penalty of 1-3 points (1 point each

day it is late for three days) and will not be accepted if turned in three days after the due

date.

2. Each unit essay must be uploaded through SafeAssign on Blackboard on the due date by

11:59 pm Tempe time. Late work will have a penalty of ten to thirty points (10 points each

day it is late for three days) and will not be accepted if turned in three days after the due

date.

3. The due dates for all papers/abstracts are listed in the class schedule in the syllabus. It is your

responsibility to follow the dates.

3. You will receive a detailed checklist for each essay/abstract well in advance of its due date.

It is your responsibility to follow the directions for each essay/abstract in order to receive

credit.

4. Check your spelling, grammar, and other elements (such as no contractions, double space,

margins not exceeding one inch, and use 12-point Times New Roman font only) before

submitting your work.

5. Type the following four items (single spaced) at the top right-hand corner of the first page of

every abstract and essay:

Your name

Course ID (CHI/SLC 120)

Instructor’s name (Prof. Xiaoqiao Ling)

The due date

6. Number each page except for page one at the bottom. Center the page numbers of your unit

essay.

7. Indent the first sentence of each paragraph after the first one.

9. Your essays may be used as samples in class. Do not include any information in your writing

that you are not comfortable sharing with the general public.
