Final Paper (POS 210)
Final Paper Outline: Your final paper will be comprised of 10 Sections, with 4 paragraphs per
Section. Each paragraph will answer one of the assigned questions and be worth 5 points. That
means each Section will be worth 20 points since there are four paragraphs per Section.
Ten Sections with four paragraphs each at five points per paragraph comes to 200 points (10 x 4
x 5 = 200pts). An additional 50 points will be for my overall assessment, which will bring the
total to: 250 POINTS.
Getting Started: Pick NINE ideology topics from the following list:

4. Conservatism
5. Anarchism
6. Socialism
7. Marxism
8. Leninism (aka Marxist Leninism)
9. Fascism (include Nazism)
10. One of the class-chosen topics
11. Another of the class-chosen topics
Instructions: Your nine picks above will be the first nine Sections of the paper. The tenth
Section will be your Conclusion, explained later. For each of the nine Sections, answer the four
questions below. Each question should have its own dedicated paragraph, so there will be four
paragraphs per Section. The questions are:
Q1: How does the ideology view: liberty and equality (i.e. which one is more important?).
How does it view human nature? This should be an analytical synopsis, with little if any
opinion.
Q2: What does the ideology believe the role of government should be with regard to
these three issues? This should be an analytical synopsis, with little if any opinion.
Q3: What is the ideology's thoughts/viewpoint regarding the issue of poverty and how it
should be handled, including any role for government? This should be an analytical
synopsis, with little if any opinion.
Q4: What do you like MOST about the ideology? What do you like LEAST (i.e. what is
your biggest criticism) about the ideology? This is where your opinion comes into play.

For the last Section (the Conclusion), answer the four questions below. As with the previous
nine Sections, each question should have its own dedicated paragraph so there will be four
paragraphs for this last Section. The questions are:
C1: Which ideology would the U.S. be categorized under? What is your basis/reasoning?
This should be an analytical synopsis, with little if any opinion.
C2: Is the ideology of the U.S. changing or pretty much staying the same? If changing,
which ideology is the U.S. changing towards? Either way, make your case. This should
be an analytical synopsis, with little if any opinion.
C3: Whether changing or staying the same, do you consider this good or bad? Why?
This is where your opinion comes into play.
C4: Which ideology do you MOST prefer? Why? Which ideology do you LEAST prefer?
Why? This is where your opinion comes into play.
Formatting: The formatting of the Final Paper is the same as with the other papers in this course,
EXCEPT for the length. In addition, each of the 10 Sections should have a heading, the last
Section/heading is the Conclusion. Requirements:
- Length: 4-5 pages
- The whole paper should be 2500-3000 words (that's 250-300 words per section)
- Single-Spaced – No double-spacing, no 1.5 or 1.1-line-spacing
- Font styles: Times New Roman or Calibri
- Font size: 12
- Page margins: 1 inch
- Heading for each Section
- Since this is the final paper, I will be fairly strict that you adhere to the above formatting
parameters.
Sources: My assumption is that you are basing the answers to the questions in this paper on
what we have discussed throughout this course. As such, you do NOT need to cite your sources
UNLESS you are quoting something/someone (such as from one of the many excerpts we
explored), or UNLESS you are giving information that has NOT come from this course. If you DO
need to include such a reference, just put it in parenthesis right after the quote/information.
You can use whatever format you want as far as citing the source, as long as it is clear where it
came from (i.e. I could find it if I wanted to).
