Declaration of Sentiments intriguing

Each week you will need to complete the class discussion board for that week. That discussion board is a Reaction board. This board is fairly open-ended. Basically, I want you to give a response to the class materials for the week. This should not be a summary (everyone else hopefully read it too) but rather something you thought interesting, a connection you saw between this week’s materials (or previous weeks’ materials), something going on today that it reminds you of, etc. It’s pretty open-ended, but what I want to see is that you’re engaging with the course materials for that week. This post should be a minimum of 100 words (due Thursday). In addition, you will post two replies to classmates’ posts on the Reaction board (due Sunday). These don’t have a minimum word limit, but the reply posts should be complete sentences that explain your reason for your response (“I agree” is not enough, but “I agree, because…” is ok).

I will send you a ebook

Respond to both of these

1. I found the Declaration of Sentiments intriguing. It was interesting to learn that women’s properties belonged to their husbands, they weren’t allowed to vote, and received less pay. They were also to be obedient in their marriage and their husbands were seen as masters. I found that interesting because today women are still told to be submissive to their husbands in order to make a great wife. It’s also interesting because in arranged marriages, men are seen as masters and women are to be obedient to their husbands. Women were expected to provide love and friendship all while providing food and a clean living space with no chance of having a career. I believe women are still expected to provide all those things today but have the opportunity of having a career while doing so.

2. While watching the videos and learning about chapter 10 the craziest thing is that when slavery ended it was still 50 years till women had rights. It still and will always blow my mind how people treated women that they would free the slaves and give them rights but not the women. On a side note, I learned the other week was that women who went to Harvard didn’t even get a degree until the 1960s. They would let them go to school but not give them the degree. I’m glad that women have more rights now than they did in the past cause I wouldn’t be able to live like that.
