This project is worth 100 points. The passing grade of this project is 60 points (60% of 100 = 60 points). Failing this project will result in a full-letter downgrade of the final grade. In addition, failure to comply with the deadline will result in a full-letter downgrade of the final grade. The two downgrade rules are cumulative (i.e., if you failed the project and missed the deadline, you will receive a two-letter downgrade of your final grade)
Project description:
This project has two parts. Part 1 concerns data collection and familiarization with XBRL. Part 2 concerns financial statement analyses and the use of Tableau.
This project is an individual project that each student needs to accomplish independently. For this assignment, pick any Fortune 100 company that interests you. Then collect data and perform financial statement analyses using Tableau.
The ultimate outcome of this project is to produce a research report of the company. Your research report should at the minimum answer (but not limit to) the following questions:
(1) What is the background of the company and its industry?
(2) What are the major competitors (or peers) of your company in the same industry? Identify at least three companies as a benchmark when you try to compare your company with its competitors/peers.
(3) How do you evaluate the financial performance of your company? Use the most recent three years’ financial data to perform your analyses. Your analyses should include:
